Ceramic Art, Emily Carr, Paintings, Ceramic SculptureA Tribute to Emily Carr, Painter and Canadian IconEmily Carr was born in Victoria, British Columbia in 1871, the year British Columbia joined Canada. She was the youngest of nine children. The Carr home was on Birdcage Walk, (now Government Street) in the James Bay district of Victoria, a short distance from the legislative buildings (nicknamed the 'Birdcages') and the town itself. The house still stands and is a museum in her honour. Her father encouraged Emily's artistic inclinations, but it was only in 1891, after her parents' deaths that Carr pursued her art seriously. I have always admired Emily Carr; her courage, her talent, her determination and her spirituality. My last two years have been spent studying her life and trying to depict something of her life in my sculptures and paintings.
